*Meta sudans: (from Latin) the picture shows the ruins of the great fountain erected in 96 by the Emperor Domiziano. Initially this cone was topped with a bronze riddled ball spilling water; The nucleus was few meters high. The fountain was dismantled in 1936 during the works for the street via dell'Impero (today via dei Fori Imperiali). Today a circle of stones marks the location of the ancient Meta.
